The Adriatic and Ionian Initiative Council signs a Declaration in support of TAP

27 maggio 2013

On 27 May the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative Council, represented by eight European governments, including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia signed a Declaration in Brussels agreeing to cooperate on further Development of TAP and IAP pipelines.

The Declaration underlines the importance of intergovernmental cooperation “as a driving force to regional economic integration and development in the Adriatic and Ionian area” with regard to pipeline projects.

Kjetil Tungland, Managing Director for TAP said: "This declaration by eight European countries demonstrates the clear pledge of a strong political will to work together to ensure that gas supplies from the Caspian Sea through the TAP and IAP pipelines to the region will become reality. Furthermore, this Declaration was preceded by an MoU signed in Tirana on the 23rd May by the governments of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro in support of TAP and IAP.

Michael Hoffmann, External Affairs Director for TAP said: “These recent political agreements and declarations reinforce the bilateral agreements signed by TAP during 2011 with many of these countries ahead of the pipeline selection.  Perhaps more significantly, it demonstrates concrete evidence of TAP's ability to deliver strong political support from the region."
